A Personal War (closed)

"that's hard to explain...." i looked at the dirt, this is where i was born... so why fight for the other side?

"No it's not." I calmly argued back. Just simply say it, North or South." I continued and slid my arm out of his.

"It's complicated for me" why was this such a problem

"How is it complicated? Are you for slavery or against it?" I asked and crossed my arms. What on Earth was so hard for him to answer?

i sighed "I'm from Oklahoma.... but I've been living with my aunt in New York, that's where I was enlisted"

"So you're with the North." I mused and took a step back. "I..I should go."

"dont wanna be" i let my accent hang out

"Look I'm sorry, but if your with them my Father will kill me." I said and nodded. "Thank you for saving my hat though."

i stopped "I was forced into it, Not my choice"

"And I was born into the life I live yet I don't even want it. So, goodbye then." I nodded and started off back towards my mansion.

"how could you not want this life? Being out here where the air's clean, where people actually care about you?" i was in disbelief "If I had my way I would always be out here, taking care of like 30 horses... Instead I'm forced into an army fighting against what I believe."

"I don't even get to touch a horse unless I'm riding it. And my parents care about me. Just enough to keep me looking my best for suitors. But that's not what I want! You tihnk you don't want to fight, I don't want to be someone's trophy wife." I said back and narrowed my gaze.

"trophy wife.... no you're better than that, If you ever find the right person they'll be the lucky ones." i turned and started back for my camp "by the way, Union camp is just over the hill... I'm sure the confederates would like to know that"

"Excuse me? You think I'd be that stupid and tell them where you are? What on Earth to you take me for?" I accused and didn't give him time to answer. "I'm wasting my time arguing with a total stranger!" I told myself and turned walking away. "Oh, and I won't tell them. I don't believe in this stupid war anyway." I snapped and stormed down the path muttering words that would be too horrible to say out loud.

"as if I do..." i turned and walked back through the trees

I slowed my steps and took a deep breath. If I wasn't so upset I would've noticed that he wasn't all that bad looking.. But then again it wouldn't work out... He was with the North, I was by default with the South. Father would kill me..

what was the point in trying to be polite? they just pry until they get the ugly truth and then that's all they think about and cast you out like week old milk

I stayed where I was and brushed my curls out of my eyes. Why did I have to get dragged into this whole war mess? Why me?

why didnt my aunt just throw me to the wolves, it would be easier than this

I took one last breath and started home, taking a detour so I could actually tell him I took a long walk.

I got back to my camp and headed for the mess tent, I was on Kp today

I went through the woods a bit and looked up at the sky. I could tell which direction the smoke was coming from, and before I could stop myself I was heading in that direction. Curse my curiosity...

i scrubbed at the pots to clear my head. my fingers grew raw and bled at the quick

I stood on the edge of the camp and looked at it. "So this is an army camp..." I whispered and looked at it again. I was amazed at it, I've never seen one before.

i scowled at my hands and dried them and started to stanch the bleeding
