A Personal War (closed)

"we can start over! this is our chance!"

I heard him and stopped fighting, almost going limp in his arms. "W-what?" I asked making sure I heard it right. "Start over?"

"your parents are restricting your life. most likely they'll find that dress and you will be reported as dead" i looked at her and slowed to a jog, we can be together without fear

"Wait- you want me to fake my death?" I asked piecing this together. "So we can live together... We have to! It's the only possible solution, but I want to move up North. I'm not raising a family down in this hell." I said and looked at him dead on.

"What about west? there's land out there" i panted "lots of it"

"West? I don't know anything out west. It's just mountains, and Indians out to kill us for getting on their land..." I shook my head. "Can you please put my down?"

i stood and listened. I could no longer hear the cannons so I obliged and set her down, "Theres also the ocean, maybe something to the northern side"

I stumbled a little and got my balance back. "The ocean would be nice, but it's so far it would take months to get there..."

"we'll go north like you want, I'll get a job and horses. once we have enough money we can go as far as we want"

I looked at him, and then I looked back at the clouds of smoke rising from where we just were. "I want to leave.. But tonight. I need sometihng besides this shift to travel ihn. And we'll need food I don't want you stealing from the army." I said pacing now. "They won't like me up there. My accent is thick, they'll think I'm spying."

i sighed "I believe a town is nearby, my aunt is a fashion designer i might be able to get you a new dress. you're accent.... You'll be with me, mine has faded long ago, if anything I'll say we married before the war started"

"You sure that'll work Nik?" I asked getting concerned. "Oh I'm so scared about this, but I do want to be with you..."

"it'll have to work" i said stepping down into a small clear creek

I picked my skirts up and followed him into the creek. "I'm scared." I admitted.

"scared of what?" i asked turning to help her into the water

"Running. I've only done it once, but it was only to my friends house a few towns over.." I said.

i smiled "I'm here to help you now, there's nothing to worry about"

I smiled and practically tackled him, kissing him on the lips. I felt myself blush like crazy and step back. "I'm sorry! That was completely out of line for me."

i was breathless "there's no such thing" i said pulling her back

I laughed a little. "Yes there is. I'm not supposed to even act that way."

"says whom?"

"Everyone." I said quietly. "Its expected of me Nik."

I held her close "they expect it of the old you, the one before now, today you are reborn, be your own person"

"I don't know how to be. It's always been 'Abby act like this! Sit up, don't talk back. Eat smaller portions!' I learned how not to be years ago." I sighed.

"well now you can learn how to be who you want"
